4.The Plot:
The movie Madame Web centers on Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who received her mother’s spider bite from her mother before she passed away in Peru. She attempts to defend the three young ladies who possess spider abilities from Ezekiel Sims, a villain who seeks to utilize the spider’s DNA for immortality, while seeing visions of the future. After defeating Ezekiel, Cassandra becomes the comic book character Madame Web despite losing her sight and ability to move. She is the future leader of the Spider-Women.
Madame Web’s storytelling is a confused, exaggerated, and too complicated attempt to fit too many characters and too much information into a limited amount of time. The movie flits between several places and periods, with little background information or explanation. A lot of clichés and tropes are also used in the movie, like the ultimate showdown, the hidden organization, the chosen one, and the evil scientist. The movie is unable to establish a link with the Spider-Man shared world created by Sony. None of the SSU’s characters—including Venom, Spider-Man, Morbius, and others—are shown or mentioned in the movie. The film feels like a standalone and isolated story, that does not fit into the larger picture.
5.The Good:
Well, there is not a single good thing about this movie. You can watch this movie to see the beauty of Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Emma Roberts.
6.The Bad:
The bad aspects of Madame Web are its convoluted and clichéd plot, its lack of connection to the SSU, and its poor reception. The film suffers from a convoluted and clichéd plot, that tries to cram too much information and too many characters into a short runtime. The film jumps from one location and time period to another, without giving enough context or explanation. The film also relies on many tropes and clichés, such as the evil scientist, the chosen one, the secret organization, and the final showdown. The film fails to connect to the SSU, the shared universe of Sony’s Spider-Man films. The film does not feature or mention Spider-Man, Venom, Morbius, or any other characters from the SSU. The film also does not set up or tease any future films or events in the SSU. The film feels like a standalone and isolated story, that does not fit into the larger picture. The film received negative reviews from critics, who criticized its plot, its tone, its direction, and its writing. The film has a low rating of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes and a low score of 3.6/10 on IMDb. The film also performed poorly at the box office, earning only $8.2 million in its opening weekend.
7.The Verdict:
Madame Web is a disappointing and forgettable film, that wastes the potential of its source material and its cast. The film tries to be a different kind of superhero film, but ends up being a generic and boring one. The film fails to deliver a coherent and engaging story, a meaningful connection to the SSU, and a positive reception from critics and audiences. Madame Web is a film that should have been better, but was not. It is the most pathetic movie of 2024, and you should not waste your time or money on it.
