Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is an ambitious two-part space opera that promises to deliver a thrilling story of interplanetary conflict. The first installment of the film is set to be released on December 22, 2023, and the teaser trailer gives us a glimpse of what’s in store.
The trailer introduces viewers to the story of Princess Issa, also known as Kora, who is foretold to be the Redeemer, a force of peace and compassion who will bring an end to the war between the Mother World and the moon Veldt. Kora is joined by a cast of characters, including Nemesis, a cyborg swordswoman played by Bae Doona, and Admiral Atticus Noble, played by Ed Skrein.
The trailer borrows heavily from other films, including Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Avatar, and features a snippet from Jane’s Addiction’s “Three Days” to get the blood pumping. While the teaser is derivative, it does a good job of introducing viewers to the story and characters of Rebel Moon.

The trailer for Rebel Moon gives us a glimpse of the carefully handcrafted world from Zack Snyder. The setting of an elaborate lore is evident from the first second of the trailer, and Snyder’s signature touch is also very evident. From subtle slo-mos to the action zoom-ins and odd camera angles, it seems like the film will pack everything that made Snyder’s earlier hits stand out. The trailer also reveals that the universe will be very colorful with a lot of light work put into all major fight sequences.
Kora’s Story
Kora is pursued by the forces of the Mother World, who are looking for her and the resources of the moon Veldt. Kora was once a skilled killer for the Mother World’s military, and had a romantic relationship with Admiral Atticus Noble, played by Ed Skrein. Kora eventually had a crisis of conscience and fled the Mother World for Veldt.

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Jena Malone, Fra Fee, Ed Skrein, and Anthony Hopkins. Additionally, Stuart Martin, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Alfonso Herrera, Rhian Rees, and Ray Porter have been cast in undisclosed roles.
Supporting Cast
The teaser also introduces viewers to the supporting cast, including Nemesis, a cyborg swordswoman played by Bae Doona. Kora recruits seven samurai to combat the forces of the Mother World, and is joined by General Titus, played by Djimon Hounsou. Titus is a former leader of the Imperium who is guilt-ridden and drowning his disgrace in booze.
Rebel Moon Part 2
The teaser ends with the promise of Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver, which will be released on April 19, 2024. Rebel Moon combines the chosen-one premise of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope with the bloody palace intrigue of Game of Thrones. It also borrows from Akira Kurosawa’s films, and features a snippet from Jane’s Addiction’s “Three Days” to get the blood pumping.
