For more than ten years, fans of action movies have relied on The Expendables franchise. With a new cast of characters and a different approach to the action, the fourth chapter, Expend4bles, aims to modernize the series. But is it successful? The story of Expendables 4 revolves around a terrorist, Rahmat, who is attempting to steal a nuclear weapon. The Expendables are hired to stop him, but things don’t go as planned and they lose one of their own in the process. The team then embarks on a mission to retrieve the stolen detonators and stop Rahmat from starting World War III. The story is filled with spy-movie tropes, but unfortunately, none of them are explored in any meaningful way.
4. The Good:
The good news is that Expendables 4 does deliver when it comes to the action. The fight scenes are well-choreographed and exciting, with Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais bringing their martial arts expertise to the mix. There’s also a great bike chase through a cargo ship, and a five-minute, one-on-one fight between Statham and Uwais that doesn’t disappoint. The Action Scenes Were Pretty Good.
5. The Bad:
Unfortunately, the rest of the movie is a bit of a letdown. The story is incoherent and the editing is sloppy, making it hard to follow at times. The new Expendables members don’t get a lot to do, and the spy-movie elements are never explored in any meaningful way.
